Maharani Pali Darshan Das

The eldest of six siblings, SurinderPal Kaur was born on 7th December 1954, near Delhi. She first came to Mahraz Darshan Das in 1978, and thereafter decided to devote her life to the mission. She resided at Loni Dera.

On 16th February 1980, on the day Mahraz Jee inaugurated Das Dharam, he bestowed Maharani with his name and before the congregation gave her the epithet ‘Mother of the Mission.’ He further changed her forename to Pali, which literally means ‘the one who raises and nurtures.’ She was publicly proclaimed by Mahraz Darshan Das to be his power (Shakti).

Maharani Jee recalls that prior to Mahraz Jee’s untimely death; she spoke to him at length on 12th October 1987. Mahraz Jee stated to her ‘because our lives are dedicated for others, our personal lives have come to an end.’ Mahraz Jee then made a request to me, Maharani Jee states, the only time he asked me for anything. He said ‘I want your service, sacrifice and contentment'. I duly promised him. Lastly he confided to me; ‘Widows of martyrs spend their entire lives bound with the memory of one person, but I am still with you’. At the time, Maharani Jee said, these words did not make much sense to me, but I now realise their importance.

Mahraz Darshan Das had for some time been preparing Maharani Jee for her role, telling her on one occasion 'Biba, it is time for you to remove your bangles, I have great work for you'. In Mahraz Jee’s absence she had previously been entrusted with the running of the Mission in India. In October 1987 barely a month before his demise, Mahraz Jee issued and sent a formal directive ‘Hukam Naama’ to India to this affect. Today Maharani Jee is performing her duty nurturing the sapling that is Das Dharam with the tender love only a Mother is capable of giving.

Hundreds of thousands of children have been bequeathed to my embrace by Mahraz Darshan Das, whose welfare is now my Dharam (promise) and duty. The duty allocated to me is now my Mission; it is my vision of Mahraz Jee. I will now and evermore endeavour to fulfil my role as the Mother of the Mission and look after the welfare of the children of the Mission. This is the true duty of a Mother.”

Maharani Pali Darshan Das, 17th February 1988
